Dental Exams and Cleaning

Prevention is a smile’s best friend: routine visits can help prevent cavities or catch them at a smaller size. We recommend the advice of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry: schedule your child’s first visit near their first birthday, and then follow up every six months unless otherwise prescribed. If your little one is older than a year, don’t worry, just call us to get an initial appointment set up.

What can you and your child expect during visits? First and foremost: attention. We know every kid is different, and Dr. Neha personally works with all of our patients to get them comfortable visiting the dentist. We also use the latest and most advanced tech during exams, including wireless cleaning machines and intraoral cameras.

Dental Radiographs

Once a child’s teeth touch, it’s important to start getting dental x-rays to diagnose cavities that may not be visible to the eye.

We know that kids are different from adult patients, so we provide an easy, kid-friendly radiography. A small piece of paper is placed gently in your child’s mouth, and a digital camera takes a picture. All our x-rays are digital and we use the latest technology to reduce exposure.

Sealants

Sealants can help prevent all kinds of dental issues: in fact, kids with sealants are less likely to develop cavities and less likely to need additional restorative treatment.

A sealant is a resin material that protects hard-to-reach grooves in your child’s teeth. Dr. Neha cleans the grooves thoroughly and applies to sealant to block bacteria and food from entering. We’ll then check the sealant at every visit. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, dental sealants can work for 10 years or more with consistent follow-up care.

Tooth-colored Fillings

Sometimes cavities happen, even with good preventative care. In the event that your child does get a cavity that requires a filling, Dr. Neha will clean out the cavity from the tooth and place a tooth-colored filling to keep your little one’s smile healthy and beautiful.

Crowns

A dental crown is like a cap for your child’s tooth. Sometimes a filling isn’t enough, and your little one can benefit from a full-coverage crown. This may be the case if there is tooth decay too large for a filling to cover, when a tooth has been treated with a root canal, or when there’s been a large crack or injury to the tooth.

Root Canals

Root canals have a bad reputation, but in fact, this process is all about relief and healing. When a cavity moves into the nerve of the tooth, a filling isn’t enough to help the tooth heal and your little one may experience pain. Dr. Neha will remove the cavity from within the nerve, place special healing medicine, and seal the tooth with a crown.

Extractions

If a tooth has a very large cavity or infection, there are times when an extraction is best. Dr. Neha will always run through every possible option before recommending extractions, but unfortunately, there are times when the tooth cannot be restored.

Orthodontists may also recommend teeth be extracted. If your orthodontist requires an extraction, we will closely work with them.

Nitrous Oxide and Hospital Dentistry

Sometimes your little one is nervous or anxious during dental treatment. Dr. Neha can help your child feel more at ease with nitrous oxide in the office. If extensive or lengthy treatment is needed, we also offer hospital dentistry at Erlanger Children’s Hospital.

Concierge Dentistry

We understand that coming to the dentist can be scary for your kiddo sometimes, or inconvenient for you. Dr. Neha can do a complete exam and cleaning, along with discussing a comprehensive treatment plan from the comfort of your own home. Please call the office to discuss concierge dentistry.

Emergency Dentistry

If your little one is experiencing dental pain or a sudden dental injury, please do not hesitate to contact us immediately. If you need help after hours or the office is closed, please follow the instructions on the prompt for assistance.
